Destination Wedding FAQs

When is the best time of the year to get married in Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay?

Truly, every season in Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay presents a lovely backdrop for your wedding; it's really just a matter of what kind of weather you enjoy most. Winters tend to be brisk, with average daytime temperatures in the 30's and 40's. The area waterways take on a certain sparkly appeal when the sun hits them in the winter months. Holiday weddings are particularly popular, especially in downtown Annapolis, where the entire city is wrapped in garland, bows, and softly glowing lights.

Springtime is a natural choice for a wedding here, with mild temperatures averaging anywhere from 50s to 70s and colorful flowers beginning to bloom

Summertime is always a great time to get married. The temperature here is warm, anywhere between 80 degrees and the mid-to-upper 90's, and bay breezes are usually blowing mildly. The flowers are in full bloom, and thick green grass carpets the land.

Autumn is also a wonderful time for a wedding here. The temperatures and the sun become less intense, the leaves are turning their gorgeous colors, and there's a feeling of vigor in the air.

Is there a courthouse in Anne Arundel County that dispenses marriage licenses and performs civil marriages?

Yes. The Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, at 7 Church Circle in the heart of downtown Annapolis, administers marriage licenses and performs civil wedding ceremonies. Couples should note that a mandatory 48-hour waiting period takes place before the marriage license is valid. Does Annapolis welcome same-sex marriages?

Absolutely. Annapolis is the state capital of Maryland, which began recognizing same-sex marriages on January 1, 2013. While some religious denominations do not conduct same-sex marriages in their churches, many do. Plus, plenty of lovely venues in Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay not affiliated with religious institutions create wonderful settings for weddings.
