Why did you choose Annapolis?

My husband is a United States Naval Academy graduate, and although he left the Navy in 2004, he still has strong ties to the area and to the Academy. We were still able to be married at the USNA Chapel as civilians, so it wasn't even a question that Annapolis was where we wanted our special day to happen.

Where did you get married?

Ceremony was held at the United States Naval Academy Chapel, and the reception was at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront.

Describe your wedding setting?

Being married at the Chapel was a once in a lifetime experience because of its history and grandeur. We had our guests transported to/from the Chapel via the Discover Annapolis Trolley, which they absolutely loved. The trolley was decorated with flowers and wreaths, making the short ride that much more special. The Marriott Waterfront was unique as it is the only Annapolis property that overlooks the water. Our guests took every opportunity to take photos of the sailboat-lined backdrop, as cocktail hour was out on the patio.

What was the most memorable part of your special day?

The most memorable part of my day was while I was in the trolley with my bridesmaids, riding through the narrow streets of Annapolis on the way to te Chapel. The driver had the song 'Going to the Chapel' playing on the speakers both inside and outside the trolley as we drove through town and since it was a gorgeous day, throngs of people were in town, waving and smiling as we went by. That was when it really hit me that I was on my way to get married, and I felt like royalty. Every bride needs a moment like that on her big day.

Any tips for couples planning a wedding?

Our 'photo shoot' took place on and around the Yard, and the pictures turned out lovely. However, if you are getting married at another venue in Annapolis, make sure you have photographs taken at the top of Main Street where you have a charming cobblestone street and, at the end, a stunning view of the water.

Would you recommend Annapolis & Anne Arundel County?

Annapolis is a one-of-a kind wedding destination. In Annapolis, you have beautiful wedding venues that are steps from restaurants, shopping, museums, the water, and so much more, making it a mini-vacation for your guests. Our out-of-town guests were able to easily get from the BWI Thurgood Marshall airport to Annapolis and once here, the walkability of the city and unique coastal charm made them fall in love and promise future return visits (and many have fulfilled those promises!).
