Thanksgiving Farm, an estate vineyard and winery, approximately 58 acres in size, is located about 15 minutes south of Annapolis in Harwood.
April through mid-December our tasting room is open most Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5 pm (please check our website for occasional closing dates); other times by appointment.
Thanksgiving Farm® wines are made exclusively from grapes grown in the vineyards at Thanksgiving Farm. Our vineyards are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon on well drained, Marr series, sandy loam soils.
For soil conservation on the rolling hills of Thanksgiving Farm, we planted our vineyards in herring-bone patterns, with rows running parallel to topographic contours.
The ample summer sunshine and heat of southern Maryland have consistently produced ripe grapes at harvest.
We harvest our grapes by hand late in the season, ensuring that only ripe berries are picked. Harvested grapes are placed in shallow, stackable harvest trays for transport from the vineyard to the winery.
We ferment the must (crushed grapes with their skins) in small (1000 – 2000 liter) stainless steel tanks that facilitate our maintaining control over fermentation conditions.
Our red wine is aged in French oak barrels with selected toast levels that enhance the structure and flavor of our wines.
